How do I know when I’ve hit bottom? I stop digging!
I love my old unhealthy behaviors. They are so nice and comfy! The feel good, and it feels right to do them. The only problem is that they don’t work the same way anymore. They served me for a time to help meet a need, but I am a growing and beautiful adult woman…and some of those behaviors aren’t suiting me so much anymore.
Drinking was a behavior that met a need (not in the best way mind you) but it stopped working. Whenever I am dealing with a negative behavior, I have to hit bottom before I am willing to deal with it. I’m not saying it has to be super low and painful every time, but I will hit a bottom nonetheless.
Just because something I do causes me mega pain doesn’t mean I am going to stop immediately, however. I get to decide how much pain I go through. I am done when I am done. Just because I feel pain doesn’t mean I am done! I might choose to dig some more.
Luckily, or maybe not, my tolerance for pain is MUCH lower than it used to be…so my bottoms are higher. I still have a lot to learn though 🙂
