The bins were clear plastic with blue snap-on lids. I bought six of them before I had cleared a single shelf.
This was years ago, back when I thought getting organized started at the store. I carried them in from the car feeling very proud of myself.
Within a month, all six were full. They held old curtains, extra cords and things I didn’t need or even like.
I had paid good money to keep things I didn’t want. (My husband was kind enough not to say a word.)
Now that I’m retired, I think twice before I spend. A lot of us do. When the same amount comes in every month, every dollar counts.
So here’s what I wish I had known back then. Clearing out your home doesn’t have to cost you a thing.
It can even bring a little money in.
I’ve found free ways to get things out of the house and free help with the heavy parts. I’ve also learned how to tell what’s worth selling.
If you’re decluttering on a fixed income, I hope they save you money, time and a sore back.
