I've created a capsule wardrobe designed for the Fall season, and I love it!
If you want to create your very own Fall capsule wardrobe, then keep looking no further, as this is the article for you.
I'm going to tell you the choices I've made to create a versatile yet style-infused wardrobe that's perfect for the Fall season.
What is a Capsule Wardrobe
Before diving into the nitty-gritty, there are still some readers who are just starting to hear or start their minimalist living.
So to initiate them to our kind of lifestyle which in my opinion is better.
(Only joking.)
I'm going to explain the basics of what a capsule wardrobe means and its benefits.
In a nutshell, a capsule wardrobe is an assortment of clothing.
(Usually around 25 to 50 pieces of clothing, including tops and bottoms.)
Don't forget shoes (or boots!) that you can mix and match to create different variations of stylish clothing that fit your lifestyle.
This type of practice has been getting traction for some time.
In fact, it started way back in the 1970s and has since grown into a more acceptable way of how people use their wardrobe sparingly without compromising style.
Benefits of Switching to a Capsule Wardrobe
Save That Cash
I'm not one who is known to splurge an insane amount of cash when it comes to something I really must have…BUT when it comes to clothing, I'd like to choose just a few and mix and match them the way I see fit.
It just saves me cash that I'd be spending on other things that I deem are more important (not that clothes aren't important, but you get the idea.)
For the sake of this blog post, I just Googled the average spending of a person on clothing every month, and I don't mean to alarm you. But the average person spends about $161 per month for just clothing.
That's almost $2,000 per year!
Imagine the savings on just that alone.
I'll give you a minute to ponder that.
Done?
Ok, moving along.
Max Sustainability
Creating your own capsule wardrobe can sustain you for years on end and, if done well, will never go out of style.
Not one of your pieces of clothing will go to waste as you consistently wear them daily.
With that said, get clothing that is made to last, and you don't need to be stingy on spending as you won't be shopping for new clothing for a very, very, VERY long time.
Decision Fatigue is a Thing
Ever wondered why you suddenly feel exhausted just thinking about the PERFECT wardrobe?
Then you might be feeling the effects of decision fatigue.
What happens is usually our brain is designed to make a certain number of decisions per day.
And after that, it all goes down the drain.
But having a capsule wardrobe eliminates that feeling of fatigue.
Almost entirely with the comforting thought that all the items you have fit perfectly, given your sense of style for any occasion.
Plus, you love them all hence picking them as your go-to clothes for everyday life!
Decluttering Without Thinking About Decluttering
Yes, you read that right.
Even just thinking about removing some clothes from your capsule wardrobe list, you're already decluttering your things.
This would, in turn, leave you to unconsciously think that what you have is enough.
(Which is a great mindset, by the way, if I say so myself.)
Lessen That Stress
Lessen your stress by having a capsule wardrobe that encompasses what you love wearing.
This way, you wouldn't even think about wasting any piece of clothing because they're all you need!
Stress can be a nuisance in life and is unavoidable at some point, but in this instance, you are in control.
Now let's move on to what types of clothing you should wear during the Fall season.
How to Build a Fall Capsule Wardrobe
Choose What’s Best for Your Lifestyle
A key component to creating your own capsule wardrobe of any kind, whether it be for any season, is where you’re going to use it and what occasion for what occasion.
There has to be a method to your madness with what items of clothing you’re going to be using.
It should be used for any or all of the things that you would normally do during Fall.
I prefer to find pieces of clothing that can mix and match well and tend to gravitate to darker or monochrome clothing that I believe works best for me.
The point is, that your choices for your capsule wardrobe should always be able to cater to what works best for you.
And since you love all of them, you wouldn’t find yourself looking for better clothes.
Pinterest Helps Loads
A guilty pleasure for myself, and I'm fairly certain some of the readers here are going to Pinterest and getting some inspiration on what types of clothing you must try.
I'm not ashamed to admit it, either!
Even with years of experience living minimally, I am still amazed at what other people have created to make their lives even simpler.
I have created some pins on Pinterest that can give you ideas on how to create your own capsule wardrobe in general or some other things that you might be looking for.
(Feel free to pin them as reference.)
This isn't a competition anyway, so I'm not worried about that.
But beginners or even experts of everything minimal, it's always a good location to scout out optimal builds that may suit your taste.
Use Earthly Tones
Earthly tones are a relaxing sight to behold to all who have the chance to see them.
They are perceived to be warm and cozy and have the occasional *pop* when used right.
Overall choose what fits you and your style.
A capsule wardrobe should scream your identity as it's going to be you who wears them.
But, having earthly or relaxing colors such as white, cream, and brown is perfect for all!
Great Pairings
Going with the fact that you're going to be using earthly tone shades. Some great pairings would be going for denim, dark or white.
Why them, you might ask? It's just so easy to match.
They go great with anything.
You don't need to overthink things. Simply just simplify your wardrobe and match it to how you know you look and feel great.
Again, don't overcomplicate things.
Prints and Patterns Are Your Friends
During the Fall, it's nice to try out or add prints and patterns that you can take advantage of showing off when coats and scarfs are covering your outfit.
Bring out a floral pattern dress that you can customize with accessories.
Or your favorite printed top matched with a denim jacket or what you have.
Printed or patterned clothing won't hurt your Fall capsule wardrobe as there are many things you can match with them.
It all depends on how creative or inspired you want to look during that day.
Choose Your Go-To Footwear
Depending on your climate during Fall, having that perfect footwear can be used for any occasion.
You wouldn't go wrong with choosing darker shades such as black and brown that pair with everything that you’ve got selected already.
Boots are what I would normally choose to wear.
I personally use my black or brown Dr. Martins boots that are above the ankle.
It pairs nicely with everything that I currently selected for my fall capsule wardrobe.
Basic Pieces With a Splash of Denim
This comes from my perspective as a lover of everything denim. So I may be a little biased about it.
Denim is a classic, and time has proven that it would never go out of style.
Thankfully, having at least one clothing of denim can make all the difference in your capsule wardrobe, especially during Fall.
I can personally vouch for denim skinny jeans as I’ve used them in my experiment on creating my own minimalist capsule clothing and wore them for 21 days without people noticing at work!
We are blessed with having so many options in denim as there's basically denim wear for everyone's needs.
May it be a crop top, jacket, flannel, shorts, skirts, pants, and more!
With that said, denim never fails to catch someone's attention no matter where you go and who you're with.
I would definitely recommend getting at least one pair of denim clothing regardless of what season you're going to use it for.
Accessorize to Your Hearts Content
Once you have your Fall capsule wardrobe done. Don't forget to accessorize to some extent.
(Or don't.)
Having a variety of accessories to choose from can mean the difference in your attire becoming more than what it usually is without it.
A simple gold necklace or silver bag can work wonders to give me more personality to my outfit for the day.
I particularly like wearing more than one piece of jewelry, and I just believe it adds that *pop* to my clothing.
(It all depends on my mood for the day, honestly.)
Don't be scared to try out to mix and match outfits with different accessories because at the end of the day, what you love will be what you choose to wear.
