Being on the heavier side of the scale is not something to be ashamed of these days.
I've come up with some tips on just how to create your own capsule wardrobe that you just simply can't live without to help you.
Especially more so that you need to choose clothes that are comfortable, feel good, and beam confidence!
(No time but the present, let's begin!)
What's The Difference Of A Plus-Sized Wardrobe?
If you're making a capsule wardrobe, no matter what the size, there really is no difference.
A capsule wardrobe in, its core is creating your own personal style that fits you (and only for you.)
Being a plus-sized woman is not a factor that changes anything, except for the clothes that you want to wear.
Period.
(I had to include that as a topic as women asked me if there would be any difference on how it would affect their own capsule wardrobe ideas)
How To Build A Plus-Sized Wardrobe
As I said earlier, there really aren't any different factors in building your own plus-sized capsule wardrobe than a normal one.
With that said, here's what I recommend to you, ladies out there, you should try to bring out or amplify that confidence some more.
(Trust me, it really works)
Work With Your Body
In the past, plus-size fashion got a bad name for being saggy, bland, and boring.
Today, thankfully, things are getting better.
(And brighter!)
Bigger brands are recognizing that people come in different sizes and making clothes that show off plus-size bodies instead of trying to hide them.
Invest In Long-Lasting Clothes
Getting quality clothing is a MUST for everyone.
Just being able to save precious time on shopping and replacing worn-out clothes is already a bonus.
Investing in better quality clothing has other benefits as well such as a longer-lasting and durable piece of clothing that you won't regret.
Plus-sized women (and really all women) can choose to spend more time doing what they love more with this choice.
Make The Most Of Your Selection
Simply put, you need to be versatile.
With a plus-sized capsule wardrobe, you need to make sure that all clothes can be able to mix and matched.
Don't be scared to spruce things up and pair clothes that you haven't tried yet.
(That's what a capsule wardrobe does for you, right?)
A good example that my plus-sized friends pair with are black pants(or shorts,) a black sweatshirt, and a gold necklace to add accent.
Why?
Because it simply works, and it's comfortable to wear as well!
Bring Confidence And Style Back
You need to be able to choose clothes that fit you and your body comfortably.
Not only that, clothes that allow you to bring back, regain, or enhance your clothes!
In saying so, choose QUALITY articles of clothing to not only make your wardrobe last…but to give more comfort as you wear them.
Different Types of Plus-Sized Shapes
Just in case you didn't know this, we can categorize plus-sized body shapes that can work well with different styles of clothing.
(In case you're unsure of what you're working with)
These are just some of my tips that I'd like you to explore if you don't know what to wear yet right off the bat.
Pear-Shaped Body
Having a pear-shaped body means that your frame is narrowest through your shoulders and bust.
And having full hips and waist!
This means that you mostly have a defined waist.
The staple pieces for you to try and piece together would be bootcut pants, statement pants, and an A-line skirt.
Apple-Shaped Body
Like an apple, your hips and shoulders are almost perfectly balanced.
On top of this, your upper body is curvier while your waist is not so much.
Staple pieces are as follows:
An empire dress would be nice to own.
A volume-sleeved blouse and wide-leg pants to make sure all features are seen.
Hourglass-Shaped Body
This body shape consists of having a larger bust and curvier hips.
All the while, your waist is the narrowest part of your body.
Both your shoulders and hips are mostly the same width, helping you have that hourglass figure.
Staple pieces for this body shape can go with an empire dress once again.
To add, mix your wardrobe with a good blouse and statement jacket to add variety.
Straight-Shaped Body
This is the easiest to dress, as there are so many options to choose from.
(It all is up to your preference, though!)
Having a straight body shape means that your shoulders down to your legs are the same size.
Both shoulders and hips are almost the same measurements, while your waist is not as defined.
Staple pieces for this shape consist of (and are not limited to) an off-the-shoulder blouse, an A-line skirt, and a shift dress.
My 3 Self-Care Tips To Love Yourself More
This isn't so much for plus-sized women only, but for everyone who might need to hear this.
As I've found that self-realization is harder to find, especially if you're not looking for it.
Thus self-care is paramount in creating your own plus-size capsule wardrobe.
Here goes.
Changing Your Mindset
Changing your mindset may seem simple enough, but a hard trick to master.
In terms of wearing clothes that you are comfortable with as well as radiate confidence, you just need to start doing it.
Dress for yourself and not for others first, then once you've gained that mindset.
Nothing or no one will keep you from finding your own personal style.
It's better to start trying that now and make it a gradual change rather than a drastic one.
Don't Stress Out
Stressing out isn't healthy for anyone.
Especially for women who have a lot of things already on their minds.
(Am I right, or am I right?)
Stressing out over what clothes you want to pick isn't going to help you one bit.
So having the right articles of clothing with you to work with, especially on your plus-sized capsule wardrobe, is key.
Wear Only What You Love (Not What People Tell You)
Wearing clothes that you love and pairing them with other articles of clothing is really how a capsule wardrobe starts.
You don't want to keep wearing the same clothes if you don't love them at all.
(Right?)
For this reason (and many others), you can start creating your plus-size capsule wardrobe right now.
People can tell you many things that might look good on them but not so much on you.
I know it may be unfair, but don't worry about it.
(You know why?)
You can wear clothes that work well with you that don't work well for them.
Yes, it goes both ways.
So to put it simply, wear what you love and not what other people tell you.
Different Ideas For Simple Clothes That Will For You
There are a lot of different tops to choose from, and it can be hard to find one that looks good and fits well.
When you find one that works, buy a lot of it!
A V-neck sweater, a blouse, a loose tank top, and a maybe even long cardigan sweater are all examples of tops that look good.
A pencil skirt has been popular for a while because it fits well and looks good on most people.
It works well in both a formal and a casual work setting.
Curvy women of all sizes look great in wrap dresses.
(And that's not just my opinion)
It gives an hourglass figure a waist and draws attention to the narrowest part.
This dress is very appropriate because of its fit and flare style.
Even though new styles always come out, your skinnies will always be the most useful jeans you own.
Even Khloé Kardashian and Emma Grede started Good American to make jeans that look good on curves up to size 24.
The reviews are so good because the very high waist looks great on hourglass and apple-shaped bodies.
That's because of how well they fit, and people think these jeans are worth the price.
Chinos are a classic workwear choice, but they can also be worn to important meetings as dress pants.
They can be dressed up or down, and polyester blends don't cost a lot of money and don't wrinkle easily.
If you like jeans with tighter legs, this pair is for you.
There are also a lot of jeans with loose legs or a wide cut.
As for shoes, It depends on what you're wearing and which one you need.
Neutrals look good with any color and tend to be cleaner.
Now let's talk about flats.
They should shape to your feet and give you some room to move if you have wide feet.
That's the general idea of what you want for your footwear in all styles.
How To Make A Plus-Sized Wardrobe Work? (My Version)
Look for plus-size tops with a waistband.
For a flattering look, wear black, navy, charcoal, or chocolate-colored tops.
A-line silhouettes that come in at the waist and out at the hips give you a more balanced look.
Wear flared pants, which will help your body look more even.
It's simple enough to start but can be as versatile when paired with other pieces of clothing.
